Elizabeth Goddard, c.1591

Originally housed in the Steeple Ashton Church, removed in 1851 to Rousham, Oxfordshire.

Interesting hood configuration. This one gives me a bit of a theory. First layer of black coif, second layer of billement with flap attached at very top. It's this flap that is folded back on the top of the head.

Lovely definition in this photo. Great angle of the headwear. I think I am developing a theory about this type of headdress.

All that remains of the earlier church in Nuneham are the effigies of Anthony (died 1577) and Philippa Pollard (died 1606) which are placed in a shelter in the churchyard.

Dame Mary Evre, 1612

Ludlow, Shropshire, originally uploaded by Oxfordshire Church Illustrations.

The tombstone in the back would indicate a date of 1612, consistant with clothing. Interesting bustline on the bodice.
